When using a battery jumper, always make sure to read the instructions carefully and never jump start a car with a dead battery. However, you can actually use it multiple times as long as you follow the proper safety precautions. Most people believe that you can only use a battery jumper once. If you frequently have problems with your car battery dying, it might be time to invest in a new one.Ī new car battery will usually last for several years before needing to be replaced. Some brands may only allow you to use their jumpers once or twice before needing to replace them, while other brands may allow you to use them more than five times. and that drained the battery. However, the number of times you can use them will depend on the brand and model of the jumper. For me my toddler turned on the hatch light a couple times without me nnoticing during the day. The plain fact is that people often do drain their good batteries by mistake. I have a relatively new car, but that doesn't mean shit happens. In winter I pack a care kit (blanket, snacks, hand warmers etc). But if you don't have anybody to help you boost than cables are useless. If someone is around and wiling to help you boost than great. What good are booster cables? Call a taxi to help you boost and that'll cost you $20, not sure what it costs now, but Taxi's won't do it for free. What if you're working and everybody has left and your car won't start. car not used for extended period especially during these covid daysīooster packs helps if you have nobody around. Maybe because there're many reasons(other than a degraded battery) that people may need to jump their car ? for example, good cables cost like 30-40 percent of the new battery cost. If someone is using it - what if I forgot to turn off the lights? I would like to ask him - do you use pillows attached to your bumpers? What if you hit something or someone would hit your car? For the car, especially in the wintertime - get a new battery. But I know, I can use the main battery the whole day without worrying, as I know I have a booster to start. I have one and I used it on my boat a few times, while cooler and other electronics drain the battery to the point that it cannot start the engine. If you are paying $60 or more for the booster - why not to spend some more and get a new battery? With the new battery, you will be safe for 4 or more years. Still not clear to me what could be the point of the booster. it just seems like a bad idea on a gas powered car. It doesn't save that much weight and it probably won't last long due to the abuse from the alternator. EVs have heating and insulation to account for this on their lithium drive batteries.Īlso what would be the advantage? It's not cost, because the lithium battery will be multiple times more expensive than a traditional lead-acid battery. the alternator will be constantly charging your battery to 100% which will diminish battery life.Ĭold weather is harsh on litium batteries and you won't be able to start your car. Lead-acid batteries love being fully topped up. Why do you think that even electric cars still have a secondary 12v lead acid battery ? Lithium seems ill suited for a replacement to the lead-acid battery for so many reasons. Plus I have a really stupid size so no one sells it but the dealer and Canadian Tire. I could just buy a new battery but I'm debating on putting in a lithium battery instead of a lead acid. I have to jump mine practically every time I start my car. Not OP, but my battery is dead and I'm stubborn.
